As an organization that advocates for data-driven solutions to some of society’s most intractable challenges, we are ever-more alarmed at the prospect of what many are now calling a “post-fact world.” Thank you to everyone who joined us on October 26th for our Celebration Breakfast to support our fact-based child advocacy and honor the following individuals who inspire us with their extraordinary determination to surface the truth and protect it from relentless assault.

Broadcaster, author, political commentator, and journalist Joy Reid has held herself to the highest standards of journalism and demonstrates a stalwart commitment to the facts each time she appears on air. On MSNBC’s AM Joy she corrects misinformation in real time and holds guests accountable for every word they say. Her integrity and veracity elevate the caliber of conversation in American media.

Vanguard Award: Lauren Duca
Award-winning journalist Lauren Duca catapulted herself to national renown through her smart, eloquent and sometimes “scorched-earth” Teen Vogue column in which she works to, in her words, “regain control of the truth.” She has been aptly described as someone who promotes and practices the ethos “that young people, empowered with knowledge, agency, and conviction, can create change in their communities and their world.”

Columnist at The Intercept and Harvard University’s Fair Punishment Project’s writer-in-residence Shaun King works tirelessly to educate New Yorkers about the flaws of our juvenile and criminal justice systems. A former senior justice writer at the New York Daily News, Shaun helped push New York’s historic “Raise the Age” legislation over the finish line. His fierce activism helps us confront the daily reality of social, racial, and economic injustice in New York and nationwide.

Nancy Solomon has never been afraid to defend the facts or roll up her sleeves and do whatever it takes to make New York a better place for children and families. A Vice President and former Chairman of CCC’s Board of Directors, Nancy is without a doubt one of the staunchest proponents and practitioners of fact-based advocacy and serves as a role model and inspiration to CCC volunteers and staff alike.

Errol Louis is a New York City news institution. He hosts NY1’s “Road to City Hall,” is a CNN political commentator, New York Daily News columnist and frequently appears on local radio and television shows. He has spent his career helping shape influential commentary and analysis on pressing issues facing New York. Errol’s reporting has won him several awards, including our own Samuel Peabody Award in 2009.
