R.E.A.L. Talk: Education Equity

October 22 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

R.E.A.L. Talk: Education Equity

In the fourth part of our Racial Equity Advancement Labs (R.E.A.L.), we will discuss how systemic racism impacts our city’s education system. The racial educational achievement gap is interconnected with systemic inequality. Black and Brown students from families with low incomes are more likely to be below proficiency standards, dropout of high school and not complete college.

Join us as we explore how we got here and how we can begin to address these deep educational disparities across our city.

Panel speakers include:

  • Takiema Bunche Smith, Executive Director of the Center on Culture, Race & Equity, Bank Street College of Education
  • Dr. Michelle A. Paige, Associate Executive Director, University Settlement
  • Anne Williams-Isom, James R. Dumpson Chair, Child Welfare Studies, Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service

About the Series: Racial Equity Advancement Labs (R.E.A.L.) is a series of convenings that will unpack the structural and institutional barriers that disproportionately keep people of color living in or near poverty, and will advance race-conscious policies and programs to establish economic security and well-being for all. R.E.A.L. is a collaboration of three New York City-based nonprofits – Citizens’ Committee for Children of New YorkFPWA, and United Neighborhood Houses – that are committed to building just and equitable communities as our city recovers and rebuilds from Covid-19 and its fallout. Click here to visit the series page for more information.
