2011 Infographic: Keeping Track of New York City’s Children: The Impact of the Recession
CCC’s infographic illustrates the devastating impact the recession has had on New York City’s children.
The data shows that 1 in 3 New York City children (525,000 children) are living in poverty, and there is a disparate racial impact. In Manhattan, a child who is Black or Latino is 10 times more likely than a white child to live in poverty. In the Bronx, 50% of Latino children live in poverty. In addition, while median family income has dropped 6%, median household rent has increased—and now over 40% of households spend more than a third of their income on rent.
