CCC Testimony: Utilization of Informal Child Care

Published May, 2012

CCC testified about the value of utilizing informal subsidized child care and of ways to improve its safety and quality at the May 3, 2012 New York State Assembly Children and Families Committee hearing.

CCC’s testimony explained that, particularly during this time of economic recession when parents are struggling to pay for child care and counties are struggling to maintain their child care systems, it is critical that less-expensive informal care (or licensed-exempt) be maintained.

CCC’s recommendations to improve the safety and quality of informal care include continuing professional development opportunities and amending the Social Service Law to require informal providers to have child abuse and neglect clearances and be fingerprinted.
