CCC Testimony: Public Testimony On City Fiscal Year 2019 Executive Budget

Published May, 2018

CCC testified before the New York City Council Finance Committee regarding the Fiscal Year 2019 Executive Budget on May 24, 2018.

CCC supported Executive Budget investments of $125 million in fair student funding, $30.55 million to expand early literacy programs, and $1.2 million to evaluate the effectiveness of Thrive mental health initiatives. CCC thanked the administration for stepping in to fill the budget gap created by the State shirking its previously shared commitment to youth in the juvenile justice system by both offsetting the state cut to Close to Home Juvenile Justice placement system and investing funds to implement Raise the Age.

CCC urged the Administration and the City Council to negotiate a budget that goes further by funding 100 school-based Bridging the Gap social workers in schools with homeless students, restoring and baselining $20.35 million for 34,000 middle school students to go to camp this summer, create salary parity for early education teachers, and restore City Council initiatives that enhance the well-being of children and their families.
