CCC Testimony: City Council Oversight Hearing: Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) RFP

Published November, 2012

CCC testified about the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Request for Proposals (RFP), which will reduce the number of youth who will be able to participate, the number of hours those youth will participate, and the amount of money each young person will earn, at the November 30, 2012 City Council Youth Services Committee Hearing.

SYEP provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with valuable summer employment and educational opportunities.  Year after year, the number of youth applying to SYEP has increased, but the number of SYEP has steadily decreased.  CCC testified that even though there were some programmatic improvements in the RFP, the proposed reductions in program capacity and participant wages were steps in the wrong direction.
