CCC Testimony: City Council Oversight Hearing: Preventive Services

Published October, 2012

CCC testified about the need to ensure that there are is enough preventive service capacity to meet the needs of New York City families at the New York City Council General Welfare Oversight Hearing on Preventive Services on October 26, 2012. Preventive services are community-based services that strengthen and support families and enable children to remain safely with their families.  Thus, preventive services enable children to remain safely in their homes, protecting them from abuse, neglect and the need for foster care.  While the number of cases indicated for child abuse and neglect has remained constant, the number of families receiving preventive services has declined.  CCC’s testimony discusses this trend and is pleased that the number of cases being opened has begun to increase.
