On Friday, February 9th, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 that restored funding in 2019 for non-defense discretionary programs including education, job training, low-income housing, and more. It also increased funding for the Child Care and Development Block Grant and reauthorized CHIP and home visiting.

This past Monday, the 12th, the President proposed a budget that would cut entitlements for working families such as rental assistance, job training and college aid; eliminate any increase to the Child Care and Development Block Grant; cut SNAP by nearly 30 percent over ten years; and once again called to repeal the Affordable Care Act, cut Medicaid for families with children, among others, and eliminate federal protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Budgets are moral documents, and we must continue to push back against proposals that threaten the core principles of our critical mission at CCC – to ensure that every child is healthy, housed, educated and safe.
