The President’s Proposed Budget

On Friday, February 9th, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 that restored funding in 2019 for non-defense discretionary programs including education, job training, low-income housing, and more. It also increased funding for the Child Care and Development Block Grant and reauthorized CHIP and home visiting.

This past Monday, the 12th, the President proposed a budget that would cut entitlements for working families such as rental assistance, job training and college aid; eliminate any increase to the Child Care and Development Block Grant; cut SNAP by nearly 30 percent over ten years; and once again called to repeal the Affordable Care Act, cut Medicaid for families with children, among others, and eliminate federal protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Budgets are moral documents, and we must continue to push back against proposals that threaten the core principles of our critical mission at CCC – to ensure that every child is healthy, housed, educated and safe.

Please continue to stay tuned to CCC e-mails and social media for opportunities to call and write your elected leaders. In the weeks and months ahead, we are counting on you to help us ensure that New York City’s 1.8 million children have a voice in the decisions made at every level of government that will shape their future.
