Free Summer Meals for All NYC Children Start This Friday!

summer meals

The Summer Meals program kicks off on Friday, June 27th, and runs through August 29th.
All New York City children under age 18 can get breakfast and lunch for free – no forms or identification required.

This summer, there are over 1000 Summer Meals sites throughout the five boroughs. The sites are located in schools, pools, parks, libraries, camps, public housing developments, and soup kitchens.  In addition, there are four mobile food trucks distributing meals to children. One will be at Orchard Beach in the Bronx, and the three others will be in Queens at Flushing Meadow Park Zoo, the Main Street Library in Flushing, and on Roosevelt Avenue in Corona.

New this year, families can already find out where the Summer Meals sites will be located, even though school is still in session. We’re thrilled that the City has released the list well before the last day of classes – a move for which CCC has been advocating. Having the site list available earlier will help parents and caretakers make sure that their children do not miss a single meal.

Now, and throughout the summer, families can find the sites most convenient for them by searching online, calling 311, or texting the word “NYCMeals” to 877-877.

The Summer Meals program is a great resource to keep children fed and having fun all summer long. Please help spread the word to families throughout the city!
