Data Analyst

Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York, Inc. (CCC) is a 73-year-old nonprofit, child advocacy organization whose mission is to ensure that every New York child is healthy, housed, educated and safe.  Our unique approach to child advocacy is fact-based and relies on partnerships between professional staff and lay and professional volunteers who serve on CCC’s Board and Advocacy Council, as well as the ability to effectively engage elected and appointed officials, direct service colleagues, philanthropic partners, and New Yorkers at large.

CCC’s advocacy is grounded in the facts about the conditions in which children live here in New York City and our understanding and analysis of program and policy approaches that combat disparity and improve child well-being.  This position will support CCC’s data collection and analysis, produce data-driven products, and undertake qualitative data collection projects on child policy topics when government data is lacking in order to support the work of CCC and our partners in New York’s government, non-profit, and philanthropic communities.


  • Maintaining Keeping Track Online database by collecting and cleaning data on child well-being from various sources.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve and expand online features and working with website developers to help troubleshoot issues.
  • Assisting with the production of a wide range of products including but not limited to infographics, blogs, and regularly produced Keeping Track publications.
  • Using ArcGIS mapping software to plot data on community resources for online visualization feature
  • Conducting outreach to federal, state and city government agencies, universities, and research and policy organizations to identify data sources and make data requests.
  • Responding to internal and external data requests in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Supporting CCC’s Community Leadership Course and other community education efforts by helping to prepare and conduct presentations, materials and trainings for CCC volunteers, direct service providers, and philanthropic and government partners in CCC’s research and data products including Keeping Track Online.


  • Experience working with large data sets; collecting, analyzing and organizing data.
  • Use of SPSS or other statistical software, ArcGIS, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Familiarity with government survey tools (ie. American Community Survey, etc.), government data related to geographic units within NYC (Community Districts, Public Use Microdata Areas, Neighborhood Tabulation Areas).
  • Experience producing data visuals and explaining data and statistics in non-technical terms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and analytic skills.

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus three years of related experience; or working towards a Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Economics, Urban Planning, Policy Analysis or a related field plus one year of experience.
  • Must have knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to child and family issues.
